"I had spoken and dealt with Bonnie. My previous insurance with GEICO was $186/month. Bonnie provided me with a quote that had better coverage and was $70/month. Immediately accepted. It took a couple weeks of emailing because of my work schedule but Bonnie worked with me and was always very polite, professional, and helpful. "I shopped my business every year for insurance. I received a quote from an employee of Ed Lazar's insurance firm. The quote was the lowest so I paid the insurance for a full year to get an added discount. About a month later I start to receive invoices for my insurance accounts. I inquired why since I paid in full for a year, I was told the agent misquoted me and so I needed to pay more. So now with the added premiums this quote is no longer the cheapest so I told my agent to cancel and give me a refund. I did receive a refund but ended up paying a premium adjustment for minimum premium and a short rate cancellation penalty. I finally did receive the short rate cancellation penalty after trying to explain what happened to Ed Lazar. I still do not understand why someone would have to pay penalties when the fault was caused by the company itself. This is kind of like the old "bait and switch.""

"Mr. Stevens: Thanks for your feedback. While we strive for absolute customer satisfaction, the kind that has secured our excellent reputation in the community for nearly 40 years, we do fall short occasionally. A new team member quoted your business and closely as we monitor new business submitted by new team members, this one got by us. The final rate came back higher. Fortunately, you were able to get your old company back at the same rates. More important than price, you had no gap in coverage. If you’d had a claim during the time you were insured with us I am convinced you’d have been cared for beyond expectation. “Bait and switch” as you allege is an intentional act by someone who is experienced enough to do it. This was not quite so nefarious, but an accident and the result of a rookie mistake which my systems didn’t catch in time. Per our personal communications, and as you acknowledged in your review, I did refund your only surcharge from cancelling your workers compensation policy. Every insurance company who writes workers compensation insurance, including your current company, charges a short rate and penalty for cancelling within a policy period. Since you wanted all of your policies cancelled, including the workers compensation, you incurred the charge. That refund was actually outside of insurance regulation guidelines. Additionally, after the first refund was lost in the mail, I hand delivered the replacement. It was simply the right thing to do and why we typically receive 5 star reviews."
